Last week, The Omidyar Network, one of our principal investors, visited Nigeria to document some of Paga’s and their other investees stories. Putting together a team of notable journalists, including Neha Wadekar, Serusha Govendar, Oluwatosin Adeshokan and Linus Unah, with experience across various platforms such as CNN, BBC, Quartz, Ozy, Al Jazeera, Huffington Post, New York Times, VICE, NPR, Financial Times, to name a few, they set out to meet and document the stories of MSMEs that doubled as Paga agents.
When you are working in the trenches every day, it is easy to overlook these stories or forget the impact that Paga is making, but experiencing Paga through the eyes of these journalists, and hearing first hand the stories of the agents and their testimonials of how their Paga business changed their life, served as a reminder of the importance of the work we are doing and why we continue to hold on to “Making Life Possible” as our mantra.
It was especially exciting to meet Mrs Bolanle Akinboluwajo, who has run her Paga business for over 3 years. She has 3 sons who she trains in school in England and she emphasized the importance of women working and being co-breadwinners for their families.
Afterwards, the journalists conducted interviews with our CEO, Tayo Oviosu and later hosted a “Market Makers” marketing event with a panel including Paga, Flutterwave and Lydia. These passionate entrepreneurs briefly talked about their business, the opportunities available, and its growing impact.
Stay tuned for more announcements coming from Paga in the upcoming weeks. We have a lot in the works, and we cannot wait to share some of our new products that we have been working really hard on.
